You know what: we weren't even 5 minutes in and a friend was showing us a *developed* polaroid taken earlier when the guy gave us a rather stern ”写真取んないでね”. And even though he said it in a way that made it sound just a casual reminder, it wasn't all that friendly either.
Trust me at this point, sneaking a picture is just not worth the chances he'd break your kneecaps.
Takes a picture and lives to tell the tale? Yes, definitely a win. And a pretty good chance to die in the process as well.

This bar is where my girlfriend and I first got together, its our 2nd Anniversary in June, so a copy of the picture would make an amazing gift for her.
i went there once about two years ago....me and my ex-girlfriend met one of the guys responsible for the interior decoration down by hachiko crossing and he invited us to their party....we went up and they gave us a whole heap of free drinks, which we thought was nice.....30 minutes later i was having an awesome time, but my girlfriend wasn't feeling so good....our drinks had been spiked.....dodgy fuckers....we left....

i think the bar man is cool, and have had a good few wee chats with him, he just likes to keep a nice establishment with no messing around, makes the best gin and tonic around (maybe only if he likes you hehe), the bar is a real cool place, good people, great kitch decor - see you there
i was there once, and one woman didn't know you couldn't take pictures, but the freaky looking barman let her know about the policy in no uncertain terms. it was funny actually. but cool place anyway.
There are thousands of bars in Tokyo. Why would you want to go somewhere that doesn't want you ? I would be worried that they would spit in my drink or food. Go somewhere where they want your business. You're the one spending the money. If they can't provide the service then they need to take care of the customers.
Note to foreigners, play by the rules and you will be fine.
