I love classical music and do not own a television.... Haven't seen a movie in perhaps 4 years? Definitely not a fan of Hollywood... Going to clubs is fun for balancing out my life, but going to hear a string quartet elevates my soul.

It has been a while since I had time to write anything. The weather has become much colder and Christmas has come and gone. I am not really identifiably anything in terms of religious conviction. There are so many wonderful things to take from most of the world's religions, it is a nice time of year to reflect and try to be a little kinder to others. It would be nice if we all tried all the time, but at this time, that sort of utopian society doesn't exist. I felt wonderful after one of the last Christmas performances I did because a number of people came up to say that they felt 'at peace' and 'without stress' for the first time in a long time. To be able to make someone feel 'at peace'. I can not describe my gratefulness for a gift that would help me to do that for others. If that is what I can do with music, all the work I have to put into it is worth it. Being told this by people who came to listen was the best present I could have received at this time of year.
I hope that anyone reading this will have a wonderful New Year and use this 'New Start' to give energy and purpose to the decisions made for the New Year. With hope, determination to make that hope a reality.. and faith that it IS possible, wishes don't have stop at wishes.
Happy New Year to everyone! あけましておめでとう!

November is such a nice time in Japan. I got to Kamakura this Sunday with two friends from France. It was so beautiful, but a bit too crowded. The week day is much better for visiting Kamakura! As the leaves change colour, I remember the colours of Liege, Belgium. I used to go there in the Autumn to see the yellow leaves along the river that flows through the city. It is a wonderful feeling to hear the leaves crackling beneath your feet as you walk. I love kicking the leaves up even now.

It is a good night to drink wine! But then, every night is....with moderation....except when there is nothing to do the next day but sleep in late...preferably with someone sweet beside me.

Bistro D'arbre ビストロ・ダルブル渋谷本店. This little wine bar is very delicious, the people who tend to come here are laid back, but interesting. The quiche is the best I have eaten in Tokyo. (But, I haven't gone to the restaurant at I'Institut Franco-Japonais yet....)
Prices are reasonable. It is about 2 minutes from Shibuya Station. It's open from about 6 to around 2 a.m. The same management has a great restaurant in Minami Aoyama called by the same name. I hesitated to list this little place because it's already hard to get a seat...but, not letting people know would be selfish...It's really good...and the bartender.........Il est tres beau!

If you look at the site, and click the first line to the left of Weblog, it will go to the page for the wine bar. If you scroll down you will see the map to the place in black sepia ink. The wine bar is located on the alley called Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho. There are a lot of great little bars and restaurants there to try. If you don't speak Japanese, keep saying Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho....It is outside the Hachiko side of Shibuya Station off the big road that heads toward Aoyama, away from Dogenzaka (the road that goes up toward 109 and splits...I hope that helps you find it...) Probably the safest thing is to find someone who can point out the way to NONBEI YOKOCHO...It's worth looking for....

I forgot to mention that the wine here is also quite good! -
Talk Back Bicoque is a mix of Italian, French and unidentifiable 'European', but really delicious. The serivce is good, ambiance very nice. And, unusual in Japan, guests are asked to be considerate about smoking. Before lighting up, the person needs to ask the people around him if they mind! As a non-smoker, I really appreciate it. The restaurant is located near Kichijyoji Station. The restaurant's telephone number is 0422-71-2255
