On August 25th I went a club in Shibuya called Vuenos to see one of my favorite JIndies Bands, Free Trans Ensemble, who I featured on a few WHIT podcasts, mainly WHIT-Q2-011 and WHIT-Q2-009. Headlining that night was a hip hop group called Shade & Blu-Swing. Well they weren't hip hop in the American sense... As usual for the Japanese, they had their own way of doing things. Their music was kind of a soft rap against smooth jazz backgrounds. That instantly made me a fan and I started keeping track of Shade.

So, the other night (Sept. 28), I went to a live house called The Doors in Hatsudai, a little west of Shinjuku, to see Shade perform in another band called Jilty Soul. They were dynamite! And that night turned out to be one of the best nights of entertainment I've ever had in Tokyo, or anywhere else for that matter.

At that performance Shade introduced two other artists who proved to be spectacular: Meajyu and Junear. You too can experience that night thanks to the YouTube videos of that performance that Shade posted. See Shade & Jilty Soul at Club Asia in Shibuya on Wednesday, November 14th.
