Japanese Animation Lovers
There are too many dumm animations out there and on TV, that it is really hard to find really cool, subversive, innovative, artistic, fun and intelligent ones. This group wants to collect recommendations from people who liked watching a show, rather than commercial advertise.
Please join and help spread the word for minor animations, that maybe only run at midnight and are no mainstream kid stuff.

without a doubt!!
great story, great character dvpt, no moe BS.
but careful, it's gloomy!! gloo-my!!
As the series progresses, you discover all the hardships that those kids had/have to go through and it's pretty painful to watch but that makes it all worth it!
A very unique story. Don't let yourself be intimidated by the robot in the background... what matter are the lives of those kids! In more ways that you can imagine...
of course I also enjoyed:
- Seirei no moribito
- Moonlight Mile season 1
- Toward the Terra
Currently watching Ghost Hound
and catching up on Denno Coil

Just watched Metropolis again for the 7th time or something... it is such a cool film still, but I guess not too many westerners liked the character designs (babies) so it didn't do well here in Canada.
The backgrounds and color palette are kick ass.

I finally got to watch Tekkon Kinkreet, the Taiyo Matsumoto manga turned into a film.
Hontoni sugoi, at the end I was thinking the child actor that played Shiro was awesome but then I was like... wait a minute that was animation, I got sucked into the story that I forgot I was watching an animated film.
This work really makes me feel embarrassed because it makes all the stupid Western animation that I have worked on look like crap and thats saying it in a nice polite manner.
Now I am re-reading the manga just to see what they decided to edit out or cut down for footage reasons.

Anyway - there were plenty of good series in 2007:
Serei No Moribito - Legend of the Guardian spirit (well thought out plot and great main lead)
Mononoke - This comes from the Toei animation studio - but it is one of the most artistic and interesting anime series I have seen in a while... Its is a horror anime, with the main character as an exorcist - but set in the edo period... awesome...
Baccano - What an amazing series! definitely my favourite of the past few months... you HAVE to check it out...thats if you like multiple stories in the same show and gore (doesnt pull any punchers here!) - it kind of reminded me of pulp fiction with the very non-linear way the story is told (i.e back to front / but with flashbacks!)
