I took this photo last week and the building looked good in the early evening sunlight.
One day Battersea Power Station will be turned into something wonderful as has happened with the Tate Modern (which was also previously an electricity generating station). But probably not during my lifetime!

The things I noticed during my London trip last week are:
Immigration officers were severer than the last year.
Tubes have no air-conditioning, YET.
The Swiss centre was gone.
Carol Vorderman lookes much younger than before (but has a huge bottom).
Jamie Oliver put on weight.
G. Bush likes T. Blair more than G. Brown.
M&S sells "Edamame salad".
A pint of milk costs 80p! (65p last year)
I still love London, of course!!!

This is in the middle of London, St.James's Park. If you missed the buildings in the background you'd think it was in the country, right? -
Another photo today...
Some guards marching through St.James's Park. -
Here are some photos I took in London today.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, riding in their carriage on the way back to Buckingham Palace.

This weekend every year is London Open Squares when a number of private gardens open their gates and allow the public to come in. I'm not especially interested in plants and gardens but I love getting to visit these secret places. In past years I've visited a garden created on moored boats in the shadow of Tower Bridge, Lambeth Palace, the Westminster Abbey gardens and some amazing places I'd never otherwise get to see.
This year I decided to concentrate on the area around Regents Park. I started at the Royal College of Physicians' medicinal garden (photo). The college has existed since somewhere around 1500 although the current buildings are 18th and 20th century. Then on to a big private garden that belongs to the Queen, a small communal garden (where I discovered Bob Marley had lived in the 1970s) and finally the Japanese-inspired roof garden at the School of Oriental and African Studies. While I was at SOAS I took the opportunity to see some wonderful little exhibitions...fantastic old Chinese and Arabic calligraphy and a photographic exhibition of Taureg people living in the Sahara.
