  • I interpreted Corb's writings as a theory that with new materials (of the time) architects are free to built essentially any structure that they can imagine. And that no longer will we end up with buildings whose forms arise simply as a means to defy gravity/support themselves, such as basilicas and gothic churches, but rather architects can create "perfect forms" that are most pleasing to the eye. Corb named spheres, cubes, pyramids, cylinders and cones as the perfect structures. But I believe we can make aesthetically pleasing forms beyond the aforementioned. In fact, there may very well be forms that we've yet to see or imagine, much like there are creatures in the ocean yet to be discovered.

Maybe not, but if all architecture is put into a bell curve, I think that society still keeps finding design at the frontier of both tails.
